Christian Healing and Deliverance in the Global South

Christianity is a religion that teaches that there is only one God, and that if you don’t believe in Him, you’re not truly Christian. But if you are, then the gospel of Jesus Christ offers hope in the afterlife. It also meets our practical needs. In the Global South, a majority of Christians came to faith by practicing biblical healing or deliverance.

In the New Testament, Jesus gave the apostles power over unclean spirits. They had the authority to heal people, cast out demons, and perform other miracles. Those powers are known as charisms. The Holy Spirit gives these gifts to people to involve them in building up the body of Christ. Charisms are most likely to happen in people who are passionate about God. In the Bible, charisms are described in 1 Corinthians chapters 12 and 14. The goal of these gifts is to help the church be effective in its mission.

The Bible also emphasizes the importance of healing and the role of faith in healing. During his ministry, Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead. In the New Testament, the gospel accounts include numerous instances of healing and exorcism. Some of these miracles were so powerful that they even sparked the fury of enemies.

The 19th century was a time of great revival for Protestants. Missionaries fanned out over the world and evangelism spread quickly. Many Protestants reported experiencing the “new birth” experience, forgiveness of sin, and the “second blessing” of the Holy Spirit. The latter was said to lead to physical healing, as well as freedom from sickness.
