Miracle Healing in Christianity

In Christianity, the healing power of prayer is a central part of worship. The Church’s tradition recognizes the right of elders to pray for the sick and anoint them with oil. According to the Book of James, the faith-filled prayer of a priest can save a sick person. The Greek word for anointing is “sozo,” which means both physical restoration and salvation or bodily resurrection. It is a powerful instrument for bodily healing and spiritual strengthening.

It is true that the lack of God in our society leaves a void that is often filled with counterfeits. In this society, the battle for our hearts and minds is on. Those who lack the love of God are prone to seek fulfillment in the false faith of others. In the process, they may become victims of exploitation and deceit. Christianity, however, is a way to reclaim lost faith in society.

Christians believe that Christ came to save the world. In the Bible, the human person is comprised of a spirit and a body. This divine gift allows us to become part of the body of Christ. Christians are called to be instruments of God and should cultivate their faith in God and use their gifts to help others. But how do we become a channel for the divine? What is the role of the Holy Spirit in Christian healing?

Jesus, the apostles, and the Holy Spirit have a central place in Christian life. The apostles are said to have passed on the power of healing. However, the apostles themselves were not able to heal. Hence, these gifts are also seen in the lives of African Christians. And, as such, African Christians are considered to be masters of appropriation. They have done miracles through the power of prayer.
