The Miracles of Christianity
The Miracles of Christianity
Christianity is a monotheistic, Abrahamic religion based on the life of Jesus of Nazareth. It is the world’s largest faith, with over 2.38 billion followers worldwide.
The Bible mentions that the word of God can battle forces of darkness. In the first thousand years of the Christian church, non-stop confrontation of demons was a part of everyday life. One of the earliest recorded examples was the burning of the temple of Diana in year 262 AD.
Speaking in tongues was a talisman in the early church, though it didn’t necessarily mean that all Christians had the gift. Peter’s shadow had healing powers, but was it a miracle in the biblical sense? Similarly, the gift of prophecy was a bit of a mystery.
According to the Bible, speaking in the holy spirit isn’t for everyone, but there are some who have it. Some even claim to have the gift of healing.
Unlike in the bible, most miracles happen in the presence of Jesus, not in the name of Jesus. For instance, there is a story of a man who was possessed by a demon, but was thrown back by an invisible force.
There are also a number of unorthodox pentecostal churches in Africa that are a direct descendant of indigenous African religious practices. Many of these churches have been initiated by Africans, who are often subjected to opposition from missionaries.
One interesting fact about the Book of Acts is that it doesn’t contain many mandates for the church. Rather, it’s theological and historical.
