Evangelism and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Christianity is a monotheistic religion that originated in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Today, the faith is the world’s largest religion with 2.38 billion followers. It is a religion based on the Abrahamic tradition of monotheism.
Evangelism is a central part of a long apostolic tradition. God has chosen certain people to be a blessing to others and to show them the way of faith.
The gift of speaking in tongues is a well known Bible story. But, did you know that it was only one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit?
While the gift of healing is sometimes portrayed as a ‘wow’ factor, it has never been the primary objective of the healing ministry. Rather, apostles had power to heal the sick, cast out demons, and raise the dead.
Historically, the gift of tongues was a gift of the Holy Spirit. In the early church, speaking in tongues was a common language used to communicate the gospel. Christians also were able to speak in a variety of different languages.
A charismatic faith is a commitment to actively follow Christ. It produces a ‘new creature’. Unlike the old Protestantism, it does not entail a decision to become a Christian, but rather an active dedication to a faith of saved persons.
Globalized charismatic Christianity has reinvigorated the subjectivity of a militant Christian subject. This subjectivity can be construed as opposition to reasoned debate, as well as free speech. As a consequence, it may have a negative impact on modern democratic politics.
