Miracle Healing in Christian Faith
A part of Christian faith is the belief in healing. People believe that if they keep walking by faith, they will be free from sickness. Several examples of these healings are recorded in the Bible: Trophimus (Acts 4:20), Epaphroditus (Philippians 2:25-27), and Paul (I Corinthians 12:5-7).
The Bible also emphasizes baptism as a necessary part of being a Christian. On the Day of Pentecost, Peter proclaimed to the crowds that salvation was possible through repentance and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. This is a necessary step to receiving the Holy Spirit. Another example is the story of Paul, who was led to Christ by an apostle named Ananias. He exhorted Paul to get baptized in Christ’s name, which led Paul to receive the Holy Spirit.
Many people were drawn to Jesus for his ability to heal. They had heard about the Galilean healer, who was able to cure any illness and restore health to the sick. In those days, life expectancy was short and medicine was primitive. Though there were some very good doctors, they could only do so much. Healing incurable illnesses would require days of traveling.
The gospels also teach that Jesus gave people authority to cast out demons. This is significant because the New Testament starts with Christ’s healing of a man who was suffering from an evil spirit. Those who follow the teachings of Jesus are expected to be vigilant and watchful of demon activity.
