Miracle Healing in Christianity

Whether you believe in Christianity or not, it is one of the world’s largest religions. The religion is based on the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Its followers are estimated to be around two and a half billion.

Historically, the Christian faith has been a persecuted religion. However, the church grew rapidly in the fourth and fifth centuries. Those who committed to the faith often sacrificed their physical health for their spiritual practices.

Throughout the history of Christianity, the practice of healing has been part of the ministry. Jesus gave authority to the apostles to heal the sick, cast out demons, and raise the dead. In fact, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, including miracles and discernment of spirits, are listed in 1 Corinthians 12.

Although the apostles only had the authority to heal the sick and cast out demons, many churchgoers today follow the teachings and traditions of men. Some claim to have the gift of healing but don’t actually practice it. Those who claim the gift have to have a lot of faith to actually be healed and have God do what He wants.

In the fifth century, some serious Christians fled urban corruption. Others were unable to get the faith to go to confession because of harsh penances.

The practice of praying for the sick became a common ritual in ordinary churches. Increasingly, Christians would pray for strangers in grocery stores and bedrooms. As the church grew, it began to add half a million new converts to its membership each generation.
