The Sacrament of Healing in Christian Faith

Christians believe that sickness and disability were not part of God’s design when he created the world. They are outward manifestations of the damage caused by the Fall. Human beings became corrupted in the fall due to original sin. The resulting block in communication between God and humanity caused sickness and disabilities. The sacrament of healing restores the ability of the sick person to communicate with God. It is a vital means of spiritual healing and regeneration.

The apostles did not perform miracles like feeding the 5,000 or walking on water. They were given only the power to cast out demons, heal the sick, and raise the dead. These miracles were not intended to establish their credibility, but to point to them as messengers of God. However, it was necessary to know the truth behind those who claimed to speak for God. In the case of Jesus, he had the power to heal and cast out demons.

The apostles were called to follow Jesus and preach the gospel. Jesus appointed twelve apostles. These apostles included James, son of Zebedee, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, and Simon the Canaanite. He also appointed Judas, the thief. Judas betrayed Jesus and he was excommunicated. Consequently, Jesus’ followers were called to repentance and salvation.
