The Basics of Christianity
The Basics of Christianity
Christianity grew rapidly during the fourth century. The early church had a small membership but quickly grew in numbers. Many people left their lives to follow Jesus. Others, like Philip and Stephen, had miraculous healings. These miracles were the result of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which are listed in 1 Corinthians 12. In this time, the church grew from persecution to state sponsorship, and its members increased from five million to thirty million. While this growth was remarkable, many of the new converts were merely nominal Christians, enticed by gifts and jobs of higher status, and less likely to follow the gospel.
Charismatic Christians are primarily focused on evangelism, conversion, and persisting in the faith of the saved. These charismatic Christians are aware that they are in a spiritual battle against demonic forces. Satan and his demons are real, and they seek to undermine the Christian mission to evangelize the world.
Personal discipleship requires patience, wisdom, and consecration. As a Christian, it is vital to be completely obedient to Jesus. This requires giving all of yourself to His teachings and allowing His Word to transform you. This transformation ultimately leads to the ability to share His message with others.
