Miracle Healing in Christianity

Christianity is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion that is based on the life of Jesus of Nazareth. It has more than two billion followers worldwide.

The gospels describe numerous miracles performed by Jesus. These include raising a widow’s son from the dead and healing a paralyzed man. This list of miraculous feats reveals the divine nature of Christ.

There are several different types of gifts of the Holy Spirit. In the apostolic era, these gifts included the ability to heal the sick and cast out demons.

Although healings are mentioned in several passages, it was not a common practice among believers. Instead, church leaders restricted prayer for the sick and made exorcisms a more rare occurrence.

A few Christians claimed to have the gift of healing. They would pray and have faith that God would do something supernatural. However, they were often caught using chicanery to accomplish their desired results.

Some Christians believed that healing was an occult practice that was not in the Bible. Consequently, these individuals opted to go with the flow and focus on other forms of spirituality.

As time went on, the primary purpose of healing shifted from compassion for the sick to proving holiness of those praying. During this time, the church incorporated Neoplatonic beliefs that the body is a prison of the soul.

Some of the best healing stories in the Bible occur in the first century. For example, Christ healed a deaf-mute man who shouted praises to him. He also healed the blind, paralyzed, and lame.
