Miracle Healing and Christian Faith

The nineteenth century was a time of great excitement for the Protestant religion, as revivals and missionaries spread from continent to continent. In the process, many Christians experienced “new birth” experiences that brought forgiveness of sin and the “second blessing” of sanctification-the infilling of the Holy Spirit-and the freedom from the power and pollution of sin. Some Christians even experienced healing from physical illness. Nevertheless, the Christian faith had some drawbacks.

The first sign that a person has been baptized with the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. Similarly, a believer will cast out demons, speak in new tongues, take up serpents, and be healed of sickness and disease by speaking in tongues. All this is a result of the Spirit’s baptism and subsequent ministry.

The Christian faith is based on the idea that Jesus is God. In the Bible, Jesus is depicted as a powerful Messiah. His miracles included raising the dead, casting out demons, healing the sick, and walking on water. These feats proved that Jesus is the Son of God and revealed his divine nature. They also caused many to praise God for His goodness.

Some Christians believe that Jesus did miracles outside of his ministry. In fact, Jesus himself acknowledges that he performed miracles outside of his ministry, as in Matthew 9:38-41. In the Bible, Jesus endorses a man who casts out demons without following him. And in the Bible, he acknowledges that the Holy Spirit was involved in every miraculous event in the ancient world.
