Miracle Healing in Christianity
Miracle Healing in Christianity
The early centuries of the Christian Church were exciting times for Christians. The Reformation was a time of revival, and missionaries were spreading their message to every continent. Many people reported a “new birth” experience, where they were freed from sin. Some reported a second “blessing” – the infilling of the Holy Spirit. This was believed to grant people freedom from the power and pollution of sin. Moreover, many Christians believed they could be healed from illness and disease.
The New Testament is full of first-hand accounts of the works of God. For example, the apostle Peter told the crowds that they could receive salvation by repenting and being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. This is a vital aspect of Christianity, since repentance is the first step to receiving the Holy Spirit. Another example is the story of Paul’s conversion. Ananias led him to Christ. The apostle called him by name and he was baptized.
Christians believe in the power of the name of Christ to overcome demons and the power of the Holy Spirit. The gospel writers emphasize this power of the name of Christ over demons. Demonic spirits are entities that stir up trouble, inflict disease, and cause other problems in humans.
