What Is Christian Faith?
If you’re curious about what Christian faith is, it’s important to understand baptism. The Bible makes clear that baptism is a vital part of salvation. In the Day of Pentecost, Peter told the masses how to receive salvation, “repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.” Then, repentance leads to receiving the Holy Spirit. In the Bible, an apostle named Paul was led to Christ by an Ananias, who urged him to be baptized. When Paul was baptized, he called on Christ’s name and obeyed the command.
After a mid-1970s conversion to Christianity, many Nigerians developed a theme of spiritual election. In Olukoya’s book, Satanic Diversion of the Black Race, he argues that Christianity was the original religion of the African people, but was abandoned by those who practiced idolatry. Olukoya also describes the “devilish diversion” of the black race to a form of Christianity known as Satanism.
In a way, this is true, but it’s important to remember that Jesus’ ministry did not include exorcisms. Exorcisms and miracles were rare gifts given only to apostles. The apostles themselves did not have these gifts. The apostles only worked for the salvation of others and not to keep church members healthy. So, healings in the Bible were given to unbelievers. In contrast, they were not given to believers to keep them well.
