Closer To Truth: Revisiting The Almighty
There is an ongoing PBS TV series called “Closer to Truth” featuring one-on-one interviews and panel discussions with the cream of the cream of today’s cosmologists, physicists, philosophers, theologians, psychologists, etc. on all of the Big Questions surrounding a trilogy of broad topics – Cosmos; Consciousness; Meaning. Here are a few more of my comments on one of the general topics covered, the Almighty.
Yes Jesus Loves MeWho can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? For it is written: For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep to the slaughter. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created things, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:35-39
Is Somebody Picking On You? – Yes, He Is!After the Israelites left the slavery of Egypt they endured 40 years of frustrating wandering in a desert before finally entering their Promised Land. God certainly permitted these frustrations even if he didn’t organize them. There was even a shocking incident in which a righteous Hebrew shoved a spear through a copulating couple (a Hebrew man and his Midianite girlfriend) in their tent – God backed the righteous one, fellow Hebrews certainly did not. The New Testament claims the desert experiences are an illustration of the kind of frustrations individuals may face in their journey through life.
Change Begins With A StepOn the church marquee in front of the parking lot, I have put a statement for all those who might pass by to ponder. It says, “Change begins with a step in the right direction.”
For Miracles to OccurMiracles are frequently defined as events in our lives that defy mortal explanation, which only occur as a result of divine intervention. Many Christians apply this definition when they see infants born without any physical or mental defects in a world of prevalent disease, and see the births as ordinary occurrences, instead of as miracles, the rule instead of the extraordinary exception. To many people, the children born with infirmity and then suddenly healed by the power of God are the true miracles. Nonetheless, Jesus has told us that miracles, large and small, will occur every day of our lives as we, 1) humbly have enduring faith in him, 2) overcome our fear of doing what he has commanded us to do, and 3) by placing ourselves unconditionally under the wise and loving will of God. Giving God the praise for things that occur, and the things that don’t occur requires a firm commitment to live the faith that we proclaim to possess. By praising God as much for a healthy baby born without defect, as one suddenly healed of defect we will better express our love for God. The following essay explores these thoughts.
When Is It Right To Boast? We normally look down on boasting but there is a time when the Bible encourages and possibly even commands us to boast. The scripture suggest we have something worth boasting about.
Empires 7, 8, and 9 ComingWe die and go to Heaven. But what of the believer’s future here on Earth?
I Don’t See It That WayJesus stressed unity, and we stress over things that produce disharmony. Instead of promoting our oneness in Christ, we display our differences.
The AccountingHave we not been taught since we were little to live in such an honorable way so as to not need to give an accounting? Have we not been taught that if we do things in such a way as to maintain a good conscience that our purpose is plain?

Great Sinner!Don’t give me that old religious stuff! Why not, what if it holds the key to a powerful and true explanation for our morally disintegrating world? And then, just what do I mean by this old word ‘sinner’? Already, we’re stirring enough questions to aim at a few answers. And I must make clear at the outset that whatever I mean by ‘great sinner’, I am not setting up grades of severity of sin. Is this all religious gibberish, or is it going to make sense? Let’s see.
