Miracle Healing in Christianity
Miracle Healing in Christianity
Christianity is a faith that teaches that every human being is made up of both a body and a soul. As the Son of God, Jesus came to save and restore human beings, both body and soul. He came to heal the sick and raise the dead. In fact, about 20 to 11 percent of the gospel accounts of Jesus’ public ministry are devoted to reports of physical healings and exorcisms.
Miracles are an integral part of Christianity, and many Africans report having seen such signs in the course of their lives. For African Christians, they were so awed that they built indigenous churches. Many of these churches were the precursors to the Pentecostal movements that are flourishing today.
However, most churchgoers today lack the faith and the spiritual understanding necessary to understand the teachings of the Bible. Most don’t read the Bible, let alone study the Scriptures. They follow the traditions and teachings of men. And while many tent meetings may be full of mass hysteria and false healing, they lack the true message of Christianity.
The sacraments are particularly effective in healing. According to the Catechism, Jesus touched the sick during his ministry, and through the sacraments, he continues to heal people today. In the Eucharist, the bread that gives eternal life, Jesus is present and heals those who partake.
